Looking Back

One year. It passed remarkably fast. And then again, some days seemed like an eternity. Our lives changed dramatically this year. It is awesome to look back and see how far we've come and think of all the new experiences we still have in store for us. Today we spent our actual birthdays in a somewhat unremarkable way, in the narrow rows of 2 different airplanes taking us back home. Amelia was able to sleep most of the first leg of the trip. But once we changed planes in Denver, time slowed to a crawl. After throwing all the toys we'd brought onboard onto the cabin floor and shunning the bottles and pacifiers we tried to put in her mouth, Amelia would not be restrained to the car seat any longer. It was pass the baby back and forth, wave to the neighbors, let's walk up and down the aisle, turn the overhead light on... and off, on... and off, on... and off. Our patience was tested. But it was well worth it. We had a really great time in Texas. Amelia had so much fun playing with her family and friends. And I'm so glad we were able to go for an entire week. But after the last few hours on the plane, we were all smiles when we finally made it to our front door.

Birthday Cake

Amelia got a taste of her first birthday cake this evening. We will be traveling on her actual birthday so we opted for celebrating early with some of her aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents after the Thanksgiving festivies were winding down. She liked her cake and had fun making a big mess of it.

Wagon Ride

Granny B gave Amelia a tour of the farm this moring in the wagon. She thought that was a pretty good way to go.

Great Grandma Anna

Amelia got to meet her great grandmother this afternoon. She thought grandma's home was neat. There were lots of new people to meet, birds to watch, old photographs to look at and new toys to play with. She and grandma struck up a lively conversation that only the two of them understood. They both enjoyed playing with grandma's magnetic letters and dolls. It was fun to watch them interact.

Cousins

It is great to be back in Texas for the holiday of feasting. Amelia had fun playing with all of her cousins (Jaden, Justin & Magnus) today. We learned that another cousin was born today to Scott and Aurélie Magnuson. Her name is Helene Ellise. Unfortunately, we won't have the opportunity to meet her until our next visit. They live in Houston. Amelia isn't really up for that long of a drive. But we are all excited to have another girl in the family.

Bottom Lip

This is one of Amelia's new favorite expressions. She enjoys playing with her mouth and making us laugh at her antics.

Old Games, New Tricks

Peekaboo has always been fun. Its even more exciting now that Amelia is figuring out how to be the one doing the peeking. Amelia demonstrates that anything can be used to play this game. She also figured out how to use things to pull herself up recently. This weekend she sought out every opportunity to do so. I hope she gains some coordination quickly. The bonks are happening more often since this new discovery.

Sippy Cup

Amelia is learning how to drink from a sippy cup. She mostly thinks of it as a toy rather than a beverage. Hopefully she will soon start to enjoy drinking from it more than banging it on the floor.

New Perspective

Amelia is now very comfortable with the notion of crawling forward. That scooting backwards stuff was fun, but now that she can see where she is going... look out. Maybe she was just holding out for the new carpet to arrive. We recently replaced our green living room rug with new brown carpet tiles (not pictured here). They have a corduaroy texture to them that gives good traction for crawling. I'm sure it will show up in a photo here soon. We also repainted the family room walls dark brown (partially seen in the background). It makes the room feel more cozy. We are all very excited about the changes.
